Auckland Civil Defence Applications

1. Download the application

Click on the iTunes image below to download the app:

OR you can do this by searching for "Auckland Civil Defence" using:

a) iTunes app store on your iPhone or iPad OR

b) iTunes store on your computer

2. Enable push notifications

Once you're registered as a user you need to allow your Auckland Civil Defence iPhone app to receive push notifications to receive FREE alerts about emergencies.

To check that your push notifications are enabled:

• Go to settings on your device and select "Notifications".

• Check to see if "Civil Defence" is listed under the heading "In Notifications Centre". If so, push notifications are already enabled.

• If you don't see "Civil Defence" listed under the heading "In Notifications Centre" you will find it under "Not in Notification Centre". Click on "Civil Defence" then turn on "Notification Centre".

You will now receive alerts in the following ways:

High severity alerts: you'll receive a push notification that combines a message with a siren-like sound.

Medium severity alerts: you'll receive the standard push notification that combines a message with the default sound from your phone settings.

Low severity alerts : the badge on the Civil Defence app icon will be updated.

PLEASE NOTE: There is no charge to receive push notifications, but they do use a tiny amount of Internet data.

3. Subscribe to SMS alerts (optional )

Sometimes in an emergency data networks may be not functional whilst SMS capability is or vice versa. As an extra precaution you may like to subscribe to receive SMS text message alerts.

Text "high" to "5455" to receive high severity emergency SMS alerts only

Text "medium" to "5455" to receive medium and high severity SMS emergency alerts

Text "all" to "5455" to receive all emergency SMS alerts

PLEASE NOTE: You will be charged at your network's standard SMS rate for each alert received. You must be 18 years of age to register for this emergency SMS alert service.

Text "stop" to "5455" to unsubscribe and stop receiving emergency SMS alerts.

Then just follow the instructions as you normally would to download an App.

This will work for android smart phones and tablets.

2. Subscribe to SMS alerts

Text "medium" to "5455" to receive medium and high severity SMS emergency alerts

Text "all" to "5455" to receive all emergency SMS alerts

1. Download the application

Use your mobile web browser and save the app to your home screen:

• Open a new window in your device browser - Type in the following URL blinkm.co/acdnz (NOTE: no www or http required)

• Once the mobile web launches, save the Mobile Web App to your home screen. How you save to home screen depends on your device type.

This will work for smart devices and tablets including iOS, Android, Symbian, Windows.
